
Set in the French sea port town Calais, Welcome is about the friendship between a divorced swimming instructor and a Kurdish teenage boy who is trying to illegally enter England. It has been a huge success in France and triggered an intense public debate about the treatment of refugees. Philippe Lioret is the director and one of the writers of Welcome and was in Melbourne as a guest of the Alliance Française French Film Festival.
