I also agree that it was nice to not see the typical sports cliché that you describe.

When it all boils down I think that even a average/OK Clint Eastwood film is better than most. I think the last truly bad Eastwood was 1990s The Rookie.

Obviously the Rugby matches especially the last one was handled with love and care and I’m glad it didn’t fall into the Hollywood sports genre mode where the team loses but, oh wait! They are back on top again, Eastwood is all class.
