Nicely said Kwenton - Invictus is a good film that does the best that it can with its limited material. I also agree that it was nice to not see the typical sports cliché that you describe.

When it all boils down I think that even a average/OK Clint Eastwood film is better than most. I think the last truly bad Eastwood was 1990s The Rookie.

Good film, agree with your review, it was very underwhelming, the message it was trying to make was clear, and it's a clear snapshot at that particular time, but the scope and repercussions are so narrowly focused as is character development really, we know Mandela has family issues and Francois was struggling with inspiration, but you couldn't really get much else. Obviously the Rugby matches especially the last one was handled with love and care and I'm glad it didn't fall into the Hollywood sports genre mode where the team loses but, oh wait! They are back on top again, Eastwood is all class.
