I haven't actually seen any footage from the Golden Globes yet but I was very pleased to hear that Rourke won the award. The hype surrounding his performance in The Wrestler is well deserved and I think we'll all be hearing a lot more from him in the future. Let's hope he picks his next lot of roles wisely.

I’m not aware of that doco – it doesn’t appear to have showed up in Australian yet, on DVD or in the cinemas. I’ll keep an eye out for it as it sounds really interesting.

Thanks for the link to that article. It’s a very sad story that makes The Wrestler even more poignant.

As a tie in to this movie; If you saw the Doco Bigger, Stronger, Faster the hosts brother who was struggling for years to become a wrestler, recently died from a heart attack linked to the industries lifestyle practices (http://www.filmjunk.com/2008/12/22/mike-mad-dog-bell-from-bigger-stronger-faster-found-dead/).

I went through a phase of watching the WWF, before it was renamed, and I really had no idea that those guys put themselves through so much. They really are athletes as well as performers.

I’m actually thinking that 4 stars wasn’t high enough and I may bump it up to 4.5 once I see it again, because it is a film that I want to see again.

I loved this movie. I’m a massive fan of MMA and the reality of what these guys go through to live their dreams is quite brutal. The honesty of the storytelling is a breath of fresh air. 4.5/5 for me.
